This year's line-up of instructors is unparalleled.
The Plein Air retreat is our largest education and social event of the year. By attending the 2018 Plein Retreat you'll make personal connections with the instructors and 60 of your peers as well as discover amazing techniques to transform your painting skills. Each day we'll go out painting and we have optional social events planned for each evening.
Our 2018 retreat takes place in beautiful E.C. Manning Provincial Park. Located in the heart of the Cascade Mountains, it is within a three hour drive from either Vancouver or the Okanagan. The geographic, scenic, historic, flora and fauna diversity in the park combined with easy access are the prime factors that make this park a favourite setting for many professional artists.
Studio work is important - but there is no replacement for painting outdoors. Just like a photograph isn't a replacement for a painting, working from a photograph isn't a replacement for working outdoors. Working en plein air can add life, colour, and details to your work. Attending this week-long retreat will help develop your plein air skills.
"(Tom) Thomson sought the wilderness, never seeking to tame it, but only to draw from it, its magic of tangle and season. " -Arthur Lismer
Manning Park has been a favourite for artists and nature-lovers alike. This location offers a variety of accommodation, great food, fantastic scenery, and optional recreational activities.

On a sketching trip with Tom Thomson, Fred Varley, and Arthur Lismer:
"That autumn of 1914 was wonderful, with sunny days and frosty nights... In the evening by the campfire, we discussed plans for the next day while we cooked good, husky meals."
